Aside of Pesto #14 - Upcoming Crowdfundr
Now on Substack
Hey everyone! Revue shut down earlier this month, so welcome to the new home of Aside of Pesto. There are no benefits to becoming a paid subscriber.
Pesto’s Guide to Testing
Now onto the good stuff. This coming Monday, January 23rd, I’ll be launching a campaign on Crowdfundr for Pesto’s Guide to Testing, a free, comprehensive, system-agnostic guide to TTRPG testing. The campaign is pretty small; just $250 to pay for editing. There are two stretch goals; at $500 it’ll also be available in print-on-demand and epub formats, and at $750 I’ll double what I pay the editor. The guide itself will be free wherever possible.
Custom Kobolds! If you support the campaign at the $25 level, I’ll make you a kobold based on a prompt you provide.
Discounted Testing! If you’re a developer and want to bring me onto the team for testing, I’m offering discounted read-through and play-through tests at the $50 and $100 levels, respectively.
Win a Free Kobold! If you sign up to be alerted for when the Crowdfundr goes live, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a free kobold, as if you backed at the $25 level. I’ll draw the winner right before the campaign goes live on Monday afternoon EST.

The OGL, D&D, and Future Projects
I’ve mentioned several projects in previous newsletters, and I’m working on a few others in secret, most of which are for D&D 5e. The news about the OGL has been dispiriting, but I’ve made commitments and I intend to keep them as long as I’m legally able to do so. Therefore:
I’ll continue to accept testing and writing jobs for 5e.
I’ll be expanding into other systems - both established and under development.
I’m pondering converting Questmaster to other systems. If you have suggestions, let me know!
The Fantasy Grounds conversions for my first four projects will be released as soon as they’re ready, so long as I’m still allowed to do so.
I have three projects that are mostly written but can’t release until either Flee, Mortals! or The Talent release, one of which is Functional Factions: Aquatic Kobolds. They’re all on indefinite hold. A handful of other projects, including Kitchen Sink (mentioned in issue #3) are cancelled.
MCDM is developing a new system and ideally I’ll resurrect some or all of the above-mentioned projects for that system. That could be a long way out though.
Everything and anything above could change based on how the OGL debacle plays out, and where people go if they leave 5e.
Closing Notes
It’s been a stressful few weeks for many of us in the D&D community, but we’ll get through it. Best wishes for everyone going forward.
I’ll see you on Monday for the go-live annoucement, but I promise not to barrage your inbox after that.
